Land Rover Defender 90 Offroading

Land Rover Defender 90 Offroading Alton, Hampshire

Most definietly the vehicle of choice I would have to say, having seen all the Discoverys and Range Rovers struggle. The Defender just got on with the job, leaving you wondering what all the fuss was about with that 'piddly' little incline!

Rich wakeboarding off Pwllheli

Rich's Birthday 2005

Arriving at 1.30am after 288 miles, including my favourite stretch of tarmac in the UK, the A4212 between Bala and A470/A487 (name?) entering into Pwllheli village was serene. The yachts were gently swaying under the light breeze in the motionless marina waters whilst the faint orange glow of street lamps mirrored their way across the surface. Read more...

Eze Village Sunset

Cote d'Azur

The first summer holiday, with the first summer weather to grace my skin this year. Fantastique. Landing at Nice Aeroport on a Monday morning at 9am, rather than landing at work and putting my hard disk into my computer to start the week, was such a relief and a release. With the sun radiating down, warming the day to a comfortable 23 degrees Celsius the primary activity for the day was to be..... lounging by the poolside after a nice glass of Chateau Minuty Rose with a light salad for lunch on the balcony.

Shortwave number stations

BBC Radio 4 broadcast a fascinating programme about shortwave number stations. I had never heard of these before, despite an interest as a child, tuning in to aircraft and marine radio transmissions. English, German, Spanish and all sorts of other voices reading numbers, seemingly in some sort of sequence, sitting beneath the static. Others were in Morse code or started with electronic music, similar to a Stylophone or musical doorbell.
Radio 4's 'Tracking the Lincolnshire Poacher' takes its name from one of the better known number stations. It begins with the folk tune The Lincolnshire Poacher then continues with a sequence of numbers read in a sampled British woman's voice. After some reading on the internet I think it's a shame that the station was tracked down to an RAF base in Cyprus, taking some of the mystery out of it. It does though give weight to commonly held belief that number stations are government communications to spies in the field.

Peugeot 306 GTi-6 A six speed gearbox, 170bhp, 200Nm torque and a superb chasis....it's clear that I've found a worthy replacement for the mighty 205 GTi. Well, it was a sad day when I sold the 205, a car I loved to both drive and admire, the incredible chasis, fantastic engine, all round discs, the true hot hatch with Pininfarina styling all made the 205 GTi uber cool. Sweeping that a couple of corners behind however is the 306 GTi-6, a very worthy competitor! Read more and see the photos soon...
