Eze Village Sunset

Cote d'Azur

The first summer holiday, with the first summer weather to grace my skin this year. Fantastique. Landing at Nice Aeroport on a Monday morning at 9am, rather than landing at work and putting my hard disk into my computer to start the week, was such a relief and a release. With the sun radiating down, warming the day to a comfortable 23 degrees Celsius the primary activity for the day was to be.....lounging by the poolside after a nice glass of Chateau Minuty Rose with a light salad for lunch on the balcony.

Having good weather through the week until Thursday when the looming metallic grey rain clouds closed in from the mountains, Louise and I headed off to Italy for a spot of shoppping in Ventimiglia and San Remo. Having stopped at the food market in Ventimiglia to stock up on tomatoes, salad, greens, parmasan and parma ham, we stopped at a cafe to knock back a machiato before the short drive to San Remo. This is where the heavens opened. The casual stroll back to the car turned into a sport of people dodging, shelter hording and traffic darting to avoid getting soaked through to the skin! Having successfully navigated our way back to the car we set off to San Remo for the afternoon, having a light pasta lunch in the port before a spot of shopping at Paul & Shark.

With the rain out of the way, we woke up to a glorious day on Friady, the sun beaming down once again in a totally cloud free sky. Meandering into Monaco, we met up with Mme Berman to have lunch at the Cafe de Paris on Casino square after our VIP trip around the Top Marques Monaco. What an incredible motorshow, Aston Martin, Bugati, Ferrari, Lamborgini, Pagani, Porsche, Rolls Royce, Saleen, where the main exhibitors. It was quite a different experience to most of the motor shows I've attended in the past, being able to open the doors of the cars to look inside and wander freely around them. My personal highlight was the Pagani Zonda Roadster, which is most definitely going to be the first of my uber car garage when I'm a little older, alongside my Porsche 911. I'll give myself until I'm 35.

A beautiful end to a beautiful day as we strolled through the little streets of old La Turbie whilst waiting for our 'taxi pizza'. Stumbling across what once was a hotel were Napolean Bonaparte stayed for the night on 2nd April 1796, near the villages' chapel, I took a photo of the bell tower as the coloured tiled roof looked spectacular against the late afternoon electric blue sky as well as the hotel and plaque noting Napoleons presence. As we drove back down into Eze, the sun set over the coast was spectacular, I think I've managed to capture the setting. Click on the images to launch a high res version in a new window.

We had a walk around St Jean peninsula on Saturday, walking from the port in St Jean up to Paloma beach (which is a good fish restaurant) and then on round the headland on a little path. The day was stunning with lots of yachts in the bay at Paloma, stoppping off for a spot of lunch presumably! We walked down to the beach and then the path continues round the headland which comes back in to the neck at St Jean so there's no need to 'cut across'. The shape of the cap can be seen in the first photo below. Some photos below of our walk around the St Jean peninsula. Click on the images to launch a high res version in a new window.
